How do trees "talk" to their neighbors?
eneath the forest floor, tiny fungal threads called mycelium wind between tree roots, connecting many trees into one hidden network. The fungus draws sugar from the trees it links to, and in exchange it helps carry water, nutrients, and chemical signals between them. Through these threads, an older, well-fed tree can send sugar to a struggling seedling growing in the shade, and trees can even release warning signals when hungry insects begin chewing on leaves nearby.
