Fog is really just a cloud that formed so close to the ground that you can walk straight through it.

What makes a cloud land on the ground instead of staying in the sky?
hen cool night air settles near the ground, it can hold less water vapor than warmer air, so any extra moisture already in the air starts to condense onto countless tiny specks of dust or salt floating around it. Those specks quickly gather water into vast numbers of extremely small droplets, all hanging together in the air as a soft, low cloud sitting right at ground level. As the morning sun warms the air again, those tiny droplets evaporate back into invisible water vapor, and the fog quietly thins and disappears, usually clearing from the ground up.
